The title of presentation: Indian Urban Water Sector: Challenges and Opportunities
By 2030, India will have 65 cities with population of more than 1 million people. Europe currently has 35 such cities. Indian urban population in 2030 will be close to twice the current population of USA. No country other than India & China have seen such big urbanization in such a short span of time. Indian cities need more than $ 1 trillion of new capital expenditure in next two decades including the need to invest in the urban water service infrastructure. The opportunity in Indian urban water sector is indeed very big. However, as big is the opportunity in Indian urban water sector, equally daunting are the
challenges. The presentation provides the backdrop of opportunities in Indian urban water sector as well as the gaps in the Indian urban water sector. For every problem, there is a solution and this presentation outlines some of the possible solutions to the woes of Indian urban water sector.
