The title of presentation: The urban aquifers: a strategic water resource within global change
Ms Lucila Candela is a researcher of IMDEA Water, a research institute focused on water management issues, is directed towards optimizing public and private decision-making processes, emphasizing on the link between water, public services, the economy and institutions.
Professor at the Technical University of Catalonia-UPC since 1977 and Professor at CIHS (1984-2012) and at the Free University of Brussels (Belgium, 1992-99). Lucila Candela has been directly involved in research activities through integrated theoretical and experiment-based investigations. Her field of expertise includes water resources, groundwater, groundwater recharge, vadose zone and transport of contaminants. Research includes field and laboratory experiments and numerical modelling (groundwater, vadose zone) and recharge simulation (including artificial recharge) and changes of groundwater resources due to climate change. She has been working in a number of projects related to water and agriculture. Manager of RTD projects in Water Resources for the Ministry of Research, Spain; ERANETs Crue and Iwrm.net manager for the Spanish Ministry of Research (EU, 2003-2007). UNESCO (Paris) Seconded expert at the IHP, Water Science Division (France, 2005). Member of IAH-Spanish chapter (VP 1988-92); Latin American association of groundwater hydrology (ALSHUD, member of managing committee).
She has been Principal Researcher (PR) and/or coordinator of research projects at national and international level funded by the National Research Agency of Spain, European Union and international agencies (several, UNESCO, UNECE, IAAE, WB) on water resources mainly groundwater
